For us here at Sky Inc, we understand now more than ever just how quickly everything can change. One minute we are setting goals for the year, and the next, we learn that there is a virus sweeping across our country. Although scared, our management team never wavered. This isn’t the first obstacle that we have faced, and it won’t be the last. Throughout this pandemic, our team has continued to thrive. Not because we have some secret tools helping us, but because we have intentionally practiced and prepared for unexpected obstacles just like this. Today, we want to break down three steps that we follow each time a new challenge presents itself.
Take stock of the situation
Every obstacle is different. So, your first step should be to take stock of the situation. Gather all of the information that you can, speak with your mentor, and begin planning your next steps. The worst thing that you could do when faced with an obstacle is to freeze up. We understand that it can be frightening, but as a leader, it is your responsibility to step up and take charge. Remember, your team members are looking at you. They will follow your example; so, make sure that you are setting yourself up for success.
Remain calm
As invested in our team as we are, we will be the first to admit how easy it can be to fall prey to your emotions. Although a positive trait to possess when dealing with your team, it is not wise to rely solely on your feelings when faced with a challenge. Instead of embracing your fears and worries, you should remain cool, calm, and collected. To set a proper plan of success, you need to be clear-headed and capable of big-picture thinking.
Set realistic goals with your mentor
Like we mentioned in our first tip, calling your mentor needs to happen ASAP. You may have all of the information available and a cool head, but the one thing that you don’t have that your mentor does is experience. They will help you set realistic goals for the future. In the case of the COVID-19 pandemic, your mentor may be in the same boat as you in terms of experience; however, they are not new to making significant changes within their businesses, and this is the help that you need the most right now.
Over the past few months, our company has changed dramatically here at Sky Inc. However, the one thing that hasn’t changed is our level of determination. We have goals set for the second half of 2020, and we are not going to let anything stand in the way of our success. By staying up to date with the latest news regarding the virus, staying calm, and relying on our mentors, we are confident in ourselves and our company. We hope that these tips are what you needed to keep your head firmly above water as you tackle any obstacle that comes your way!
